History of Kyyrönkaita
“In Southern Savonia, on the shores of Lake Kaitajärvi, lies Kyyronkaita - a place that holds ancient memories, lies a place created for healing. Near the village of Kyyrö (Järvenpää), surrounded by forest and water, it has long attracted people with its tranquility and natural beauty.
In the 18th century, military events took place here, leaving their mark on the region’s history. In the 1920s, the Kyyrö primary school building (Kyyrön kansakoulu) was constructed, becoming part of Finland’s educational reform. Since the 1970s, the building has been used as a recreation and rehabilitation center. It was developed by people themselves - volunteers who created a space for recovery, connection, and support.
Today, the historic school building is home to our restaurant, along with spaces for events and meetings. It is a living story - of the power of nature, the strength of the human spirit, and the eternal cycle of life.”
